Derek Mizner, originally from Austin, Texas has a degree in Environmental Design from Texas A&M University. After graduating cum laude, Derek returned to Austin to begin his career in architecture. A two-year stint with the Peace Corps in Central America gave Derek the perspective of the basic necessities and civic infrastructure needed by developing economies. Derek relocated to New York City to attend Columbia University and received a Master’s Degree in Architecture and Urban Design, later working in the field of architecture in the city. Two years later, Derek was once again called back to Austin to team up with Lars Stanley (FAIA) allowing him to concentrate on architectural metalworking and further pursue his passion for furniture and specialty design. In 2017 Derek became a licensed architect in Texas. A principle with SLG+ and owner of Mizner Design, Derek currently pursues projects in architecture, steel fabrication, and furniture design and fabrication.
